SUP Lessons
Stand Up Paddle Boarding is one of the fastest growing water sports across the world right now, and it’s easy to see why! Our SUP lessons for beginners are done in smaller groups to allow us to focus entirely on your own personal needs. That way you’ll get the most out of each and every lesson. You can come alone, or with a few friends. Whatever you choose we aim to have loads of fun when we teach you!
WHY PADDLEBOARDING? HERE ARE JUST A COUPLE OF REASONS!
Enhances joint stability – Balancing on a SUP board activates the small muscles in the foot and lower leg in a way that mimics physical therapy exercises used to treat plantar fasciitis and other ailments. The dynamics of standing on a board with an element of instability from the water utilizes muscles critical for balance and joint support in a way that no other recreational activity does.
Reduces stress – The powerful combination of being out on the water, enjoying nature, socialising with other paddlers, and enjoying the indescribable sensation of standing on water is an amazing stress reducer. Stand Up Paddlers almost unanimously report a feeling of well-being after going for a paddle, similar to “runners high”, but without the need for intense exertion.
Increases core strength – Stand Up Paddle Boarding engages your core muscles and builds abdominal strength and lean muscle tone, while at the same time strengthening arms, legs, back, and shoulders.
WHAT DO THE SUP LESSONS CONSIST OF?
Want to try Stand Up Paddle Boarding for the first time, but would like some guidance on the water? Our experienced instructors will go through the safety aspects before getting you controlling the SUP. For most people this will be their first time on a SUP, but if you have been before and want to focus on something in particular, just let us know! During our SUP lessons we will cover:
- Essential self rescue techniques,
- How to paddle, turn and steer,
- Correct board stance,
- Different stroke types,
- Must know tips,
After we will develop a plan for your continued improvement leaving you with a clear and precise direction of what to do next.
As the instructor to student ratio is much smaller we get to spend more time one-on-one with you and are able to provide more direct feedback than we would in larger group lessons. This helps you to gain confidence quickly and your SUP skills to progress faster.
DO YOU PROVIDE EQUIPMENT?
We provide everything required to participate in the lesson. Inflatable SUP, wetsuit, safety equipment, lockers, toilets, and changing facilities – located at the shop. Lessons are 1.5 hours long so please bring a drink, sun cream and a hat for those hot days!
Please remember that safety is always our number one priority and these lessons may be cancelled at short notice if it is too dangerous to go out onto the water.
WHEN DO THE SUP LESSONS TAKE PLACE?
SUP lessons run everyday, although we are limited to four lessons daily. We recommend booking in advance due to high demand.
